Son of daily labourers and with mother the sole breadwinner,Pagilla Ravi Kumar of Nalgonda passed every hurdle in between, left the job for preparation and depended on home tuitions for financial needs, and cracked the Sub Inspector of Police Exam with toughest selection process which is a dream job among the youth, the bright and the strongest will only get through.
Ravi Kumar was one among the 509 selected candidates announced by the Telangana State level Police Recruitment Board and secured the Job as a Civil SI.Here is Ravi’s success story that inspires many…
Depended on home tuitions for financial needs
I am from Gattuppal village of Nalgonda district. Father Bhadraiah, mother Chandramma were daily laborers. My father passed away when I was in Intermediate. My mother strived hard to bring me up and educate me and my younger brother Ramudu. I studied in local government school up to seventh standard, after which I studied in APR School-(BC-Boys) at NagarjunaSagar. I completed Intermediate in Gowthami College and graduated from NG College of Nalgonda.I studied MBA(finance) at JNTU, Hyderabad campus. I used to help my mother in farming. While studying in Hyderabad, I opted for home tuitions to meet my financial needs.
Resigned the Job for preparation
After completing my MBA, I got job as an Assistant Investment Advisor in 2011. Worked for 2 years in Angel Commodities Broking PVT Company in which I didn’t get any job satisfaction. Wanted to serve the village poor, decided to prepare for Group-2. At the same time TSPSC- Group-2 notification was out. Resigned the job and started preparation for Group-2.Group-2 exams were postponed by which my concentration was shifted completely to SI recruitment. The support of my better-half Kavitha at the time of financial crisis was unforgettable.
Selected for Constable Recruitment
I prepared keeping my target of getting civil post(SI). After getting through in prelims, I spent most of my time for Physical Tests. To be eligible for Civil, Station Fire Officers posts one has to qualify in any two events along with 800 meters sprint. But for other posts, need to qualify in all the five events. Hence, I participated in 800 meters sprint along with two more events. I am selected as constable and was undergoing training at Amberpet.
In previous recruitments of SI, Constable, most of the candidates failed in 800 meters sprint. As time gap between prelims results and events is very less, one has to be fit from the beginning and should practice running.
English and Telugu Language paper is crucial
After the Physical Tests,32,682 candidates appeared for final written exam. As mentioned in the notification, scores of English and Telugu were considered in the selection of Civil, Station Fire Officers posts. For remaining posts, minimum score in languages is enough. Candidates should not under-estimate English, Telugu languages and should give equal preference as that of Arithmetic and General Studies preparation. We should not forget that most of the candidates this time who scored well in Arithmetic and GS could not do well in English and Telugu and lost the job opportunities.
Preparation forArithmetic, GS
I have a basic knowledge in Arithmetic and GS. That is why I have not taken any special coaching. For mental ability questions, practice alone is the formula for good scores in Arithmetic. Practicing as many number of bits as possible and attempting mock tests will help a lot. For arithmetic, syllabus from sixth standard to tenth standard is sufficient. Referred SAKSHI material and standard books for each subject for General Studies.
Advice to students
In SI Prelims and final written tests, no GS question was asked directly. Questions were asked in such a way, that they can be answered with complete command over the subject. For this, Groups preparation helped me a lot. Notes prepared by me helped in the final phase.
The pre and post Telangana Movement issues should be followed well in news. One should be aware of the projects and tourism places of Telangana.
