How important is a formal education for a marketing career?

The first thing that any company thinks about after its formation is to reach out to customers and get itself known to people. This very process of getting the word out to the relevant people or making people feel the need of using a company’s services is termed as marketing.?There are people who have mastered the art of marketing, but they have not necessarily attended a university for amarketing degree. It is the experience of working as a marketing person than to know the theories about it which makes a person successful in digital jobs. Nevertheless, it depends on the industry where management is required because a degree is almost a compulsory factor to enter a well-established big company. It should be said that for start-ups and companies, marketing is an absolutely key tool, but getting a formal education is not necessarily significant for the job. The argument is backed up by looking at the qualities of a good marketing person and the changing notion of marketing which makes it clear that the training of marketing-management can be achieved by experience rather than going to college.


With the dominancy of formal education in the daily life of a modern person, nobody is considered to be compatible enough in the job market without having a formal education. This is not the case for digital jobs because a person who has spent most of the time in getting street wisdom and engaging with people in the field is definitely more skillful than a student who has spent the same amount of time sitting in a class and theorizing the process. It is never to say that formal education is useless, but it is not compulsory to be able to market a product or a company. The basic requirement for a marketing career is that the person must be able to communicate well. Communication is hardly a learned phenomenon rather it is self-development that comes with engaging and improving oneself every day. There are definitely practices like presentations in colleges that aim to improve this quality of a marketing student, but that is a very pampered comfortable environment as compared to a person who is selling pens on the street without taking any classes. Such person is directly apprehending the customer’s reaction by practical involvement and goes through a more rigorous try and error method in the market as compared to a student who is theoretically doing the same job by presenting in front of other students and a teacher. A major drawback of the lack of formal education in this area is that the writing part of communication will be difficult, but there are hundreds of online forums where professional paper writing service can be learned to make writing effective and influential. This shows that the basics of marketing, that is communication, can be learned without getting a formal education, but rather through experience and self-learning by using technology.


Secondly, the fundamental part of such a career is that a person must be a good leader. Leadership is again a practical phenomenon that has to be acquired by dealing with diverse and multiple audiences rather than leading a club of like-minded people in a college. Some qualities of a good leader are that the person must be a good listener, accept others’ views and learn throughout life. When a marketing student and a normal person with no formal education are compared for these qualities, it is clear that a formal student thinks that they have already learned enough and that they are superior to their team members because they have a degree. On the other hand, a person who does not have a formal degree is always willing to learn from others, has seen more struggles in life to be more patient and considerate of others and finally is humble and does not have a degree to consider oneself superior to other people in the team. Such person is open to new ideas as compared to the strict theories or strategies learned in colleges. This helps understand that discipline is not just a skill of words, numbers and data rather it is a process of inclusion, flexibility, and curiosity that do not require a formal education to practice.


The final aim of marketing is to sell an idea or a product to customers and get people to return to the same company. This process of engaging in marketing has changed drastically with innovations in technology and the hype in social networks and other similar sites. Managerial work is no longer wearing fashionable suits and appears in people's homes or offices where praises were useful. It should involve everyone anonymously and should be innovative enough for people to click on it and learn more about it. The changing nature of marketing has made the marketing person anonymous, and no one will ask the company that created the content marketing, and to what extent this person, rather, they will look at advertising or other innovative strategies shown on the Internet. Many new startups do not have marketing people who have specific qualified degrees, but their products are highly successful because the co-founders are smart in knowing their market and hit the right nail when putting content on their websites or social mediamarketing is not something that people have learned in formal education; rather, this is what they can offer customers to get them to buy an advertisement or offer.


In conclusion, it can be deduced in the light of the discussion above that a marketing career does not necessarily require a formal education rather the relevant qualities and experience. The changing nature of marketing has made it available for anyone to be creative and influential without showing their identity or degree and the productivity of marketing defines the performance of a marketing person rather than formal education.
